COLD SUN is coming November 30th!


COLD SUN has a release date! 

The first wave of content releases on November 30th! It contains character sheets, a free Quickstart with pregenerated characters and environments, and of course the Core Rulebook. This is the first of many releases I have in the pipeline, and I am so excited to hear feedback and tales from people's games!

Some mechanics to look forward to...

  • Vigor... the heart of Cold Sun is Vigor. Vigor is how you do everything in Cold Sun, from staying alive to taking Actions. It measures bodily health, stamina, and exhaustion. You gain Vigor by eating and lose it by doing stuff and taking damage. In other words: to do anything at all, you gotta keep eating.
  • Environment... my favorite mechanic is the Environment, which is not some static background effect quickly forgotten by everyone at the table. The Environment in Cold Sun is conscious, active, and arbitrary. It gets its own character sheet and abilities, a turn and actions, and is impossible to defeat directly. This set of active mechanics for the Environment brings it into the space in a way I've never experienced in a game system before, and puts the nature and problems of the Environment right in your face.
  • Language... players interested in conlang are going to have a field day with this game, as there is a whole page of rules in the Core Rulebook dedicated to language. In a neolithic setting, communication and language are hardly formalized; and personally, I have always despised the use of 'common' in certain roleplaying game. Language is something for each table to explore and figure out, learning how to communicate with each other in new ways with self-imposed constraints. My own tables in the numerous playtests have used pidgins, sign language, and more!
